The tall grass is gone
from the front yard
waving stalks
green and plain which, twice a year
Blossomed tiny pale-pink flowers
My neighbor called them weeds,
then called the city
who called on me
with a citation to mow them down...or pay a fine.
****
I wonder sometimes if they know your heart
the way I do.
And, conversely, if there are facets of you
that shine brilliant for them
and I have never noticed.
It is this that keeps me from viewing love
as conquest.
Those perfect blooms, unseen.
Love does not conquer...
it abides.
(hahahah...like the dude!)

you have strange laws where you live. it's like a gated community with its own homeowner's association and police force. what are they worried about? field mice? ticks? grass fires?
to be fair, there were other weeds that were larger (dead wild sunflowers) and the yard did look kind of trashy, but nothing that would pose a health hazard.
However, that's not very poetic, and I am using license!
but, but, dead sunflowers look cool! interior designers put them in vases on purpose!
"looking trashy" doesn't sound like a good reason to CITE somebody... [grrr! sorry, but my infantile "it's not fair!" button got pushed by this.]
sometimes i wish i could see pictures of where you live - i know it's generally a bad idea in terms of net anonymity [and keeping whackos from stalking you] but your stories about your neighborhood and environment make me curious.
It's basically an old working class neighborhood that has been overrun by a bunch of bourgie idiots who are buying houses here for ridiculously inflated sums of money and wanting to sell them for even more.
Does that help you?
LOL - sounds exactly like my neighborhood!
