Hot Mama at I Blame The Patriarchy

The thing is, in a world where women are the sex class (by which I mean Planet Earth), even morphing mamas are expected to display themselves according to male standards of fuckability as defined by pornography, and those who fall short are subject not only to public censure and ridicule and fat jokes, but to the ultimate horror: not being hot enough for Husband.

Whether MIM and Husband find eternal bliss in their personal oasis of mutual hotness—and really, if it makes them happy, buena suerte!—is of little consequence to this patriarchy-blamer; it is the larger stupidity of the sexist beauty mandate illustrated by this pair that smegs me off. Check out this agonizing post at a blog called The Homesick Home, wherein author L. has put on a few pounds and now endures her husband’s silent disdain.

She's so freaking dreamy!

Sound system gonna bring me back up...

February 27, 2006

So, I guess I've broken though. There's nothing like anarchism love is free. There's nothing like having/taking time to sit with people and express honestly how you feel about you, them, the universe, and everything - and feel totally heard and totally not reacted to and totally responded to - even if it's painful to some degree. There's nothing like feeling like real love is more than physical bodies colliding. Like there is no such thing as unrequited provided there is honesty and emotion. There is nothing like that. Nothing. I can't feel bad about anything because I have everything I need. And you don't need to feel bad, either...because I can give you everything you want without feeling...unrequited.

and you, too. And you. Thank you.

The trick is to take this practice, and expand it to everyone. Take it beyond the two or three people I feel safe with, and allow myself to really fully love everyone. It is my form of activism. It's also the only way I know how to really live.

Operation Ivy - Sound System

(Chorus)
Sound System gonna bring me back up
One thing that I can depend on.
Try to describe it as a limit of my ability;
It's there for a second
Then it's given up what it used to be.
Contained in music somehow more than just sound,
This inspiration coming and twisting things around
Because you always know that it's gonna have to go.
You always know that you'll be back in the cold.
Point of departure sublimated in a song
It's always coming to give me that hope
for just a second then it's gone but!
(Chorus)
Static pulse inside of music bringing us escape.
It's always temporary, changing nothing in it's wake...
Just a second where we're leaving all this shit behind.
Just a second but it's leaving just this much in mind:
To resist despair, the second makes you see...
To resist despair, because you can't change everything...
To resist despair, in this world is what it is to be free.
(Chorus)
Wake up turn my box on,
Bust the shade, let the sun in.
Times getting tougher 'bout time to start runnin'
Box in my hand music by my side,
Skankin' to the rhythm of the music by my side.

Scripture of the Golden Eternity

August 5, 2005

I frequently return to this...and I returned to it today...The Scripture of the Golden Eternity by Jack Kerouac

57

Perfectly selfless, the beauty of it, the butterfly doesnt take it as a personal achievement, he just disappears through the trees. You too, kind and humble and not-even-here, it wasnt in a greedy mood that you saw the light that belongs to everybody.

58

Look at your little finger, the emptiness of it is no different that the emptiness of infinity.

59

Cats yawn because they realize that there's nothing to do.

Blog Crushes

July 26, 2005

Is there a word for when you discover a blog, or you finally really "see" a blog you've been casually visiting once in awhile, and you suddenly feel like you MUST READ ALL OF THE ARCHIVED POSTS?

Well, OK. Here are two blogs that I have recently (re)discovered, and I just want to sit down and have coffee with the authors and find out every little thing about them. So get your asses to Austin and humor me, damnit.

Badgerings has only been around since May, but a cursory glimpse of the front page shows that this person has wit, style and a fucking humongous amount of intelligence.

I feel guilty crushing on Zwichenzug because, well, I really only started seriously reading it after that awfully nice post about my blog. But now that I have scanned the archives, I'm thinking "Why the fuck haven't I been reading this blog from the beginning?"

Both of these blogs are from honest-to-goodness, real-life, college edumacated folks, which we know is generally taboo around here. But I simply can't resist smart asses who think humans are basically good, even if they tend to express themselves in sentences heavily laden with polysyllabic words. And Zwichenzug at least attempts to improve my vocabulary with his frequent "word of the day" type post thingies.

So, yeah...thanks Badger and Rowland. Good, good, yummy good stuff. Keep it up!

New Blog Crush!!

September 4, 2003

i totally forgot it's september now, and I forgot to change out my blog crush. This month, I'm crushing on the fabulous and fascinating Confessions of a Shameless Agitator. Go read it, and I dare you to tell me that it's anything short of fabulous and fascinating. Go on! I dare you!

There's plenty of open slots for next month's crush, so e-mail me if you are interested, and tell me why you think you are crushworthy.

And if you have been crushed on and haven't received your crush mix - chances are I either don't have your address or I haven't gotten around to mailing it out. So e-mail me.

You'll never win...

August 25, 2003

Permanent crush status for anyone who can guess what song my new subtitle is lifted from. Extra super heavy duty crush status for anyone who can snag me a copy of the LP - mine got stolen by a disgruntled roommate many years ago, and I only have a taped recording of it.

Hint: It's an obscure song from an obscure Chicago band, circa late '80's. Obscure does not mean that it doesn't rock, though. It was one of my favorite bands and remains one of my favorite songs and favorite albums of all time.

July Blog Crushes

July 8, 2003

Aside from the aforementioned crushworthy commentors, the crush blogs for this month (truncated due to my own laziness) are:

Angela (but of course!)

Fire & Ice (because it's buried way down in the blogroll, and I never get around to visiting it.)

esperanza: where hope springs maternal (because jackie rocks, and what the world needs now is more mamas talking!)

I'm loving me some live journal mamas, like veggiemama. Whoever said livejournal was just a bunch of high school kids talking about boys is NOT invited to my friends list. hahahaha. OK, we talk about boys, too...

and that's it!

If you want to apply to be next month's crush, let me know. Otherwise, I think I might just run out and find my own crushworthy blogs.

July crush.

July 8, 2003

I haven't yet made the time to change out my crushes for this month, and it's nearly the middle of the month! Argh!

The thing is, two of the people I want to crush on do not really have blogs. I'm thinking that I need to add another category of crush for people who have contributed the best comments to the blog because I really rode on the coattails of susan and zagg last month. They kicked so much ass, and they deserve one of my super special mix cd's for sure.

So, I'm going to start including rewards for most consistently good commenters just because it's so excellent to frame an idea and perhaps lay the partial foundation, and then have someone like susan or zagg (and many of the other people who comment here, like suzanne, especially, but she's been busy and hasn't been commenting as much lately...but there are others who consistently leave really awesome comments that help me round out my thoughts on some topics) come along to really add some structure to what I'm trying to say...plus building some additions that I hadn't thought of yet.

I'll get to the blog crushes later, but susan and zagg are definitely the objects of my intense desire right now. hahahaha. OH, and it's almost susan's birthday, too...so everyone needs to wish her a happy one. And please use the comments of this post to tell both of them how great they are, in case their egos need a boost of any sort. And if there's a particular person who comments consistently who you want to appreciate, throw that in the comments, too. Let's make it a lovefest.

Summer Crush Mix

June 20, 2003

I've finalized the playlist for the summer crush mix - if anyone is eager to be crushed on:

Nick Cave - Still in Love
PJ Harvey - The River
Pixies - La La Love You
John Lennon - Working Class Hero
The Ex - Mother
Jawbreaker - Drone
The Eyeliners - It Could Have Been You
Thelonious m - 'Round Midnight
The Handsome Family - Winnebago Skeletons
A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It?
Nick Cave - I Let Love In
Atom and His Package - Black Metal Friends
The Strike - Victoria
Buffalo Daughter - Dr. Mooooog
The Clash - Overpowered by Funk
The Donnas - 40 Boys in 40 Nights
The Handsome Family - Tin Foil
Bran Van 3000 - Gimme Sheldon
Girl Trouble - How Can I Be Out When I Ain't Been In
Spearhead - Hole in the Bucket

Woo woo! Not as HOT as the last mix, but I figured the summer's a bit sweltering anyway...so I went for somewhat depressing and a whole lotta rocking.

Speaking of crushes...

June 4, 2003

It's that time of the month. Or, rather, it WAS that time of the month about 3 days ago or so, but I never got around to changing out my blog crushes until today. Here's what I got:

Subversity - because he lets me blather on aim right before bedtime

Cauter from Artery - because he's just a darlin'. He truly truly is.

Victoria - because...I dunno why, specifically, but I really like her blog.

Jared - because she was nominated to be my crush by someone else, and I feel like a total dork because I had never blogrolled her before today, even though I love her site.

I still have a few people waiting in the wings to be crushed on, but they just don't pay enough attention to me for me to feel secure in crushing on them. Please feel free to e-mail me and let me know if you'd like to be next month's crush...and those current crushes who dare to e-mail me their postal address will receive a copy of the current crush mix.

mwah!

blog crush!

May 22, 2003

OK - listen up. Believe it or not, we are nearing the end of the month, and I have a paltry amount of applicants for a blog crush. Come on, people...you know you want me to dote on you.

Just e-mail me and let me know why you think you are crushworthy (extra points if you actually know something about what I'm into) and I'll consider you.

And anyone who has been crushed on and has not received a crush mix, make sure you e-mail me yr mailing address so I can send one out.

blog crush

April 17, 2003

If you would like to be my blog crush next month, feel free to e-mail me and let me know why you are crushworthy. If I decide you are worthy of my attentions, I'll send you a mix tape or CD (sometime in the next year or so) and feature your link here right smack at the top of the page. Plus, I'll tell all of my friends how cute you are.
